Why I Love Being a Midwife
May 17, 2022
Most people think that I love being a midwife because of the babies.
I mean… who wouldn’t! Babies are so magical…
- The way they trust
- The wisdom in their deep eyes
- The smell of other realms
- The way they remind us to slow down and be present
- The miracles they show us as they learn to use the human body
Babies are the icing on the cake of being a midwife.
Witnessing the sheer power of birth, holding open portals for new life, being an intimate part of sacred moments in people’s lives… these things are also really freaking dope!
But what I REALLY love about being a midwife is helping birthing people remember that they are amazing.
At so many prenatal visit with my beautiful clients I see their struggles with fear, with guilt and shame, with feeling not good enough, not strong enough, not worthy enough.
- Feeling they don’t deserve to have a beautiful birth
- Feeling they can’t possibly take a break during pregnancy
- Feeling they don’t know how to connect with their babies
- Feeling they can’t receive the postpartum love and support that is their right
The list goes on and on. One fear after another. One feeling of unworthiness after another.
It is heartbreaking.
It reminds me of myself and my own fears and feelings of unworthiness.
So I love holding these vulnerable birthing people in my heart and trying to show them a glimpse of their true selves, the powerful people who I see as they sit in my office. I love to help them see the truth.
- See they can trust themselves
- See their own wisdom
- See their connection to other realms
- See it is ok to slow down and be present
- See the miracles of their own bodies
Each birthing person was once a miraculous baby. Each beautiful trait of a baby that makes us want to love them, is still present within each of these pregnant and postpartum people, and it makes me want to take care of them.
It's why I love being a midwife.
Can you see the beauty of your baby in yourself today? I can. I would love to show you. Stay tuned for some new and exciting ways I am beginning to work with birthing people!
