I Deserve a Vacation!
Dec 01, 2021I hope your December is off to a beautiful start. I am SOOO EXCITED because I am taking December off call for some ME TIME!
The past two years have been so full of amazing births. I have learned so much from these “COVID babies!” I always think… what kind of powerful, brilliant souls choose to be born during a global pandemic? They must be here to do so WORLD CHANGING!!
They must also know how much their parents need and deserve REST.
The idea that it is not just OK but important, in fact CRUCIAL to S-L-O-W-D-O-W-N is so foreign to modern Americans. We need a whole pandemic to make us rest a bit.
We are taught that our value is in our productivity, and when new babies come into our world, it is so hard for their parents to shift into the pacing of the baby’s spirit.
In the Ayurvedic traditions, they believe that the first forty days postpartum dictate the health of the mother for the next 40 years. How’s that for taking the postpartum time seriously?
The postpartum time t is meant to be savored. For people to lavish in support- being fed and touched and served as though they had just created life.
Because they just created life.
Almost all of the beautiful birthing people I work with struggle with being served and supported.
➢ We have forgotten how to receive and how to rest.
➢ We feel like the world will cave in around us if we are not actively holding it up.
➢ We feel like we are not doing enough or will not be loved if we don’t pull our fairshare of the load (even though we just grew and birthed and are now feeding and caring for a new human… hmmmm…)
It’s a pandemic in itself.
Well guys, I tell families all the time that they need to let that go and figure out how to rest and receive.
So here I am practicing what I preach. I am heading to Guatemala for 3 weeks! Nothing but peace and quiet on the agenda.
